Sustainable waste management on small islands
Because we understand that small islands require tailored solutions, we're partnering with Triple Benefit. Their innovative technology allows us to reduce the transport of plastic waste. The plastic is processed locally into building materials that meet local demand. This way, we're working towards a win-win situation for both society and nature conservation. To achieve our goals, we collaborate with several renowned NGOs, that have proven themselves over the years and are reliable partners. They are listed on the right side of this website.
Scientific Research
We facilitate scientific research into the waste problem and publish it here. We don't keep the results to ourselves; we share them with everyone who wants to help improve living conditions on our planet.
There is no 'planet B'! Research is needed to substantiate the need for a unique approach to the waste problem on small islands. This is an important foundation for our improvement plans.
Volunteers and students who want to help solve the waste problem are welcome! The staff at Toma Majo Lease offer guidance and support. They are skilled fixers with extensive networks and are trusted by local organizations, schools, and government agencies.
Happy Green Islands builds bridges between knowledge. We believe Saparua will become a model for other small islands. We want to contribute to the outflow of knowledge on the island and bring knowledge back to Saparua.
We facilitate volunteers and students who want to help solve the waste problem and all its consequences. Students from all over the world are welcome if they speak at least English and preferably also Bahasa Indonesia and Ambon Malay. Students from the Maluku islands are especially welcome because we strive for improvements suggested by the community. This significantly increases the chance of success. Conducting interviews, providing information, and designing marketing materials in the local language are crucial in this regard. As an organization, we value solutions that align with local culture, norms, values, and traditions.
Information and Environment Education
We organize information and environmental education programs, funded by your donations. We invite school classes and their teachers to our building. There, they'll find an eco-library, sports and games to keep things fun, as well as films and documentaries.
Numerous presentations have been given to local governments, village communities, churches, and schools. This has been successful. Residents are calling for practical solutions and a government that implements and enforces national laws and regulations.
